WAS IT A BIG TAKE?
A suggested classification for takes averaged over the length of the hole/stage is:
- A BIG take is greater than 1 bag of cement/ft [ 1 litre of cement/cm]
- A MODERATE take is between 0.3 and 1 bag/ft [0.3 and 1 litre of cement/cm]
- A SMALL take is less than 0.3 bags/ft [0.3 litres of cement/cm]
ASSESSMENT of the application after the grouting is finished is necessary to:
- decide whether the grouting has been satisfactory, particularly if there have been leaks or connections to other holes which may have impaired the quality of the grouting.
- decide whether a second application is advisable.
- decide whether extra, unplanned holes are necessary to compensate for deficiencies in the grouting or to deal with unforseen geological finds.
- detect problems which might warrant changes in subsequent grouting, and to enable accumulation of experience about the site.
This is where experience comes to the fore!
For help in gaining experience try the book Construction and Design of Cement Grouting by this present author.
That completes this programme. You might like to proceed to the SIMULATION programme which provides comparable analysis and explanations for the grouting of a theoretical grout hole.
